"The idea of forcing us to like each other is nothing short of sickening." Some students greeted Sophomore College with nothing but hostility. I can understand their point of view; sophomores are often considered the "keystone" group at Trinity. With first years living together and most seniors choosing to live off campus, living arrangements are essentially set. The hall programs and strict rules that Res Life must enforce are other things to think about. I wasn't allowed to use my fog machine during Halloween because it may set off some alarms. Why do I have a fog machine? Who knows?

There is also what I've heard described as "an excessive focus on diversity here." Senior Avi Singh also points out, with so much attention being paid to what makes us different, how can we ever expect to form a unified community?

"I'm pretty sure this is as good as it gets." Personally, I found the small campus to be very accommodating. As a first year last year, it was easier to get adjusted and find the buildings my classes were in. But compared to 40-acre campuses like UT-Austin, it is slightly disheartening to think that there is nothing left to explore beyond the limited confines of Trinity, which is not within walking distance of many establishments. Murchison resident Eric Cuevas, who plans to transfer to Vanderbilt, has expressed concerns that he had reached the zenith of college enjoyment last year.

And then there are a couple of personal gripes of my own. I will admit that some of my professors appear to be paid by the hour in terms of compliments they give Trinity. I'm glad that they like Trinity, but it almost sounds like propaganda at times. Also, Windows Vista really sucks. It has decreased my productivity and on a related note, I can only fix so many "Trintiy Blackboard" errors by myself. This is the eponymous name of our school; I'd like it to be spelled correctly.

We all know about the benefits of being at Trinity. After all, that's why we're here now; apparently there were enough positives about the school to entice all of us to attend it. The prestige that comes with a Trinity degree, the tightly-knit community and focus on diversity are all things we've heard about. But I think the negatives are worth taking a look at as well. My "Mass Media" class has taught me the value of diverse reporting with different points of view. Many of my friends are considering transferring out of Trinity, indicating a low retention rate. What are some of the reasons?
