The search for a new president of Trinity University is now in its first stages and will continue over the summer. The search committee has both published an advertisement for the position in several relevant locations and released a candidate specification document, which explains to potential job candidates the University, its challenges and its opportunities.
The Presidential Search Committee hopes to have the choices narrowed down to a few of the best candidates in time for the Sept. 24 board meeting, where the Board of Trustees will make the final decision. According to John R. Hurd, chair of the Presidential Search Committee and trustee, getting the candidates narrowed down in time might prove challenging because the search will be conducted over the summer.
The candidate specification document outlines 11 challenges, including building the University's national and international connections, making University-wide decisions, increasing geographical, socio-economic and ethnic diversity among students and faculty and continuing to advance the financial condition of the University.
"The next president of Trinity University will lead the institution with a sense of pride in its accomplishments, passion about its mission and excitement about its future," according to the candidate specification document.
According to Hurd, only a few people have applied for the position so far, but he expects to see the bulk of applications to come in now that the potential candidates have the chance to read the candidate specification document and learn more about the University.
"We are not going to sit back and wait for applications to come in," Hurd said. "We are going out to search for the very best candidates we can find."
The Presidential search committee has paired with Storbeck/ Pimentel associates who know about some of the potential candidates and the recruiting process.
The Board of Trustees will also be meeting with presidents of other universities and companies to see if they know of possible candidates for the position.
