Last Tuesday, students gathered on the Coates Esplanade to see the drag queens and kings of Trinity.
Co-hosted by the Sexual Diversity Alliance (SDA) and the Zeta Chi Epsilon sorority, the Drag Show raised money and awareness for the San Antonio AIDS Foundation.
"The Sexual Diversity Alliance has put this event on for years," said Kate Goldsberry, junior, president of SDA. "One of the reasons we teamed up with the Zeta Chis is because they've always been so involved anyway."
Anna Morgan, senior and co-vice president of the Zeta Chi Sorority, noted that Zeta Chis pride themselves on being open to diversity.
"You can't get any more diverse than the Sexual Diversity Alliance!" said Morgan jokingly.
Groups and clubs on campus participated by putting together acts, which are generally lip-syncs and dances.
Seven groups participated in the event this year, including the Zeta Chi Sorority, the Iota Chi Fraternity and the Trinity Diversity Connection (TDC) officers.
This year, the student band Luxury of Infancy performed as part of the event. Members of the group include sophomores Adan Gonzalez and Stanton Burke and first years Katy Silva and Joe O'Connell.
"I don't think any of us will be dressing in drag because, for one, we can't all fit into Katy's clothing," Gonzalez said.
According to Morgan and Goldsberry, regardless of how many groups participate, the audience is always enthusiastic.
Among the dollar bills from the show, the donations gathered the week before the show and T-shirt sales, Goldsberry said that the Drag Show raised about $400 dollars last fall, and this year the preliminary count is approximately $350.
To the side of the stage, an HIV fact booth was set up to inform people about the AIDS epidemic. Next to that, the audience was invited to dress up at the "Get Yourself in Drag" booth, which had makeup and face paint available.
Each act in the show was created by the performers; acts often consisted of lip-syncs and dances.
